Shinedown is one of my favorite bands, and when “A Symptom of Being Human” came out I really wanted to cover it. “Sometimes I’m in a room where I don’t belong …” I’ve felt that way sometimes ” … how ’bout you?” I like how they talk about mental health, it’s ok to not be ok sometimes because just about everyone feels that way at one point.

I’ll share a little of my own personal critique:

Honestly I almost didn’t post this video, I really wish that it was better than it is. But then I have to remind myself that this is a passion project for me to have fun and to learn. I have to remember to not be so hard on myself. But I would love nothing more than to put out a nice polished piece of art. 

The green screen is splotchy and it bugs me. I know for next time to stretch out the fabric a little better, to stand further away from it so I don’t cause it to rustle and I need to brighten the lights & angle them a bit better. I spent a good chunk of time tweaking the settings, and this really was the best I could do. 

I think I’ll update my video software for the next video as well. I’m using Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 that I purchased at least 5 years ago. I need to do some more research, probably between Movie Studio 2024, Vegas or maybe Adobe has a product. 

I’m still not 100% happy with my vocals, but probably never will be. It’d probably be better if I edited my vocals. I usually do about 4 to 5 takes and pick the best one for the video. I could pick and choose the best parts of each take and edit them into a track with fewer errors, but that goes against what I wanted for this channel.

I did like the thing I did with the logo at the beginning of the video. Although it’s just a short little sequence, it took a bit of time to work out.

I have some ideas already of some more songs to post in the future, and I’m looking forward to creating better looking and sounding videos.
