Back in September of 2011 I auditioned for Canada’s Got Talent. The auditions were held at the Westin Bayshore. There were so many people, and such a good energy in the air.

CGT 2011 - once we got inside we had to wait in a long queue

I remember we started off by lining up in a long queue. After much waiting we were slowly issued to a room where we’d register. Then they broke us off into smaller groups where we waited until it was our turn to perform in front of the preliminary judges.

I performed Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. It’s always been one of my favorite songs, one I can lean into. Unfortunately I never got the call for the official auditions but it was a good day regardless. I talked to some really neat people and even ran into an old work bestie!

About a week or so ago, I had a memory pop up on Facebook, with the images and commentary from that day 12 years ago. I had been thinking about auditioning again but almost talked myself out of it. I spent the last weekend mulling over the questionnaire and picking out my submissions. I am learning that I am definitely not a good hype-(wo)man for myself (I wonder how much a publicist would cost – lol!)

On Sunday morning I woke up, grabbed myself a coffee (& fed the cats), then sat down and completed the submission. I’ll admit I actually felt a little nervous after hitting the submit button. I am realistic and know that there’s tonnes of talent out there, and the chances of getting a call for the televised auditions are slim. With that being said … wish me luck!
